THE EXOTIC BIRDS
The term macaw designates a large family of parrots with shimmering and colorful plumage ranging from blue to red through green. Members of this large family have a long tail and a strong beak, and like many other parrots have the ability to imitate human speech. They are now in danger because they are highly sought after for resale on the pet market and live mainly in captivity.
THE EXOTIC BIRDS
The Toco toucan is easily recognized by the black plumage covering its body, its white throat, the blue circles around its eyes and its impressive yellow beak stained with black. He is now the best known member of the toucan family. Living in the tropical forests of South America, this approximately 64 cm bird has the ability to regulate its body temperature through its beak.
THE EXOTIC BIRDS
Do you know that it is partly because of its food that the flamingo’s plumage is pinkish? It feeds mainly on aquatic invertebrates, as well as their larvae and eggs. We especially find crustaceans including salina artemia rich in carotenes which contribute to the pink color of its plumage. The pink flamingo is the most widespread species of flamingo. It walks its long and elegant silhouette in lagoons and salt lakes. Its beak, unique among birds, allows it to evacuate the salt contained in the water which passes through it. The flamingo sleeps standing on one or two legs, its head hidden under a wing.
THE EXOTIC BIRDS
The stork is a relatively gregarious kind of wading bird that breeds within a colony. It is easily recognized by its straight, pointed beak and its black and white plumage. Unlike other animals, storks cannot sing or shout and communicate by snapping their beaks.
